First off, RK Meier’s narration is the reason this audiobook works as well as it does. His Thor sounds like a lovable frat boy who skipped leg day, while his Loki drips with smug, self-serving charm. The man can sell a punchline just as easily as he sells a dramatic monologue about the end of the world. That said, there were moments where the humor felt *too* anachronistic—like when a god casually drops a TikTok reference that yanked me out of the mythic vibe more than it added. It’s a minor gripe in an otherwise tight performance. The story itself is a wild ride, packing the scope of Ragnarök into a tight 2.5-hour runtime without feeling rushed. Gross has a knack for making the gods feel like real (and really flawed) people, which makes their inevitable downfalls funnier. My only critique? The ending wraps up a bit too neatly for my taste—I wanted more chaos, more Loki scheming, more Valhalla as a dysfunctional family reunion that never ends. Still, if you’re looking for a mythology retelling that’s less "epic poem" and more "comedic roast," this is the audiobook for you.
