The protagonist’s struggle isn’t just about choosing between good and evil; it’s about confronting the cost of power and the fragility of loyalty. The audiobook’s strength lies in Timothy G. Little’s performance, which sells the absurdity of the premise without ever making it feel ridiculous. His voice has a gravelly edge that suits the protagonist’s world-weariness, and he nails the tonal shifts—from hushed tension to explosive confrontation—without overplaying a single line. The production quality is top-notch, with minimal background noise and a clarity that makes the supernatural elements feel immersive rather than distracting. That said, the middle act sags slightly under the weight of its own mythology. Altabef occasionally lingers too long on lore dumps, which can stall the momentum. And while Little’s narration is excellent, his angelic voices—especially the higher, ethereal tones—border on unintentionally comedic. These are minor quibbles in an otherwise gripping listen.
