I’ll admit, I side-eyed the idea of a *five-minute* dinosaur audiobook at first. How much can you really cover? But *Dinosaurs* proves that brevity and depth aren’t mutually exclusive—if you’re ruthless about what to include. Todd MacDonald’s narration is the secret weapon here. He nails the tone: warm but not saccharine, authoritative but never lecturing. His delivery on lines like *“Imagine a creature so massive its footsteps shook the ground”* actually gave my nephew goosebumps (he showed me). The production is clean, with no jarring sound effects or distracting background music, which keeps the focus squarely on the facts. That said, this isn’t a flawless gem. The pacing stumbles slightly during the asteroid impact section, where the narrative rushes through the science of mass extinction in a way that might leave younger listeners scrambling. A 30-second pause or a simpler analogy (like comparing the asteroid to a “space mountain”) could’ve helped. And while I appreciate the lack of cutesy dinosaur voices, a *single* well-placed roar or ambient jungle sound might’ve added immersion for the 4-and-under crowd. Still, for its runtime, this is a masterclass in how to make nonfiction *fun*. My only real complaint? It ends just as you’re getting hooked—though maybe that’s the point. Consider it the audio equivalent of a dinosaur cliffhanger: short, sharp, and guaranteed to leave them craving more.
