Walker Williams and Rachel Leblang make this audiobook sing—or, more accurately, they make it sprint. Williams, voicing Benny, nails the exhausted-but-exhilarated tone of a teen who’s just lived through *too much* in about 30 seconds. His delivery of Benny’s dry, sarcastic asides lands perfectly, especially when the chaos escalates and his voice cracks between panic and genuine laughter. Leblang’s narration as Benny’s ex, Mack, is a standout—she captures his sharp edges and hidden softness with precision, particularly in the quieter moments where the humor drops away. The production team deserves credit for balancing the audio clarity; the chase scenes through the cemetery have a visceral tension, with footfalls and rustling leaves adding immersion without muddying the dialogue. That said, the pacing stumbles slightly in the middle act. A few too many internal monologues drag when the action should be propelling us forward, and the time-jump epilogue feels rushed, like the story needed an extra chapter to sit in its resolution. Still, these are minor quibbles in what’s otherwise a brilliantly executed listen. The chemistry between the narrators sells the romance as much as the script does, and by the final chase—yes, there’s another one—the emotional payoff feels earned, not forced.
