About This Audiobook

John Lithgow’s *Drama* isn’t just a memoir—it’s a masterclass in storytelling, delivered with the same wit and warmth he’s brought to stages and screens for decades. This audiobook crackles with the kind of insider insight that only comes from a career spent at the nexus of theater, comedy, and Hollywood, but it’s his razor-sharp reflections on family, failure, and reinvention that truly steal the show. Lithgow’s narrative voice is as polished as his monologues, effortlessly shifting from sharp humor to poignant honesty, proving he’s as compelling a raconteur as he is an actor. Whether dissecting the highs of Broadway or the lows of early auditions, he makes the personal feel universal—a rare trick for any memoir, let alone one from a man whose résumé reads like a highlight reel of American culture.

Editor's Review ★★★★

AudioBook Atlas

I went into *Drama* expecting a breezy celebrity memoir, but Lithgow delivered something far more substantial—a book that’s equal parts confessional, craft lecture, and love letter to the arts. His narration is the standout, a masterclass in vocal control; he doesn’t just read the words, he *performs* them. His delivery of a story about a disastrous early performance in *The World According to Garp* (where he played a dog—yes, really) had me laughing so hard I had to pull over on a highway. The pacing is tight, too, never lingering too long on nostalgia or veering into self-indulgence. That said, I wish he’d dug deeper into some of his more controversial career moments—like his role in *3rd Rock from the Sun*—instead of glossing over them with a chuckle. Still, the production quality is top-notch, with seamless transitions between anecdotes and a warmth that makes you feel like you’re sharing a drink with him. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to live a life in the spotlight without the usual Hollywood schmaltz, this is the audiobook for you.
