Entangled

I went into Entangled expecting another fae romance with a sprinkle of magic and a brooding love interest. What I got was a taut, emotionally grounded narrative anchored by one of the most believable magical systems I’ve encountered in fantasy audiobooks. Emily Lawrence’s narration was a revelation—her pacing matched the story’s escalating tension perfectly, and she gave Clara a voice that’s restrained but never flat. You can hear the exhaustion in her breath after a battle, the flicker of hope when a new spell works. The library setting, brought to life with crisp sound staging and Lawrence’s nuanced delivery, becomes a character in itself—ominous, labyrinthine, and strangely alive. That said, the romance, while sweet, unfolds a bit too slowly. There are stretches where emotional payoff feels just out of reach, and a few secondary characters could’ve used more depth. Still, the world-building is exceptional—Mercedes avoids info-dumping by weaving lore into action, and the nightmare monsters feel genuinely threatening. The audiobook’s production is clean, with no distracting background noise, making it ideal for late-night listening. It’s not a fairy tale. It’s better: it’s a story about survival, dignity, and the quiet courage of someone who refuses to break. I’ll be thinking about Clara for weeks.
