Fairy-Struck

I listened to Fairy-Struck with a smile and a careful ear, because the premise—an ethical boundary-crossing romance with a fairy hunter—could drift into cliché, but Sumida and Nemeth-Parker keep it anchored. Nemeth-Parker treats each emotional beat as evidence rather than ornament: her voice for the heroine lands with strength and vulnerability in equal measure, while the hunter's guarded menace softens into surprising tenderness at the right moments. The pacing strikes a satisfying balance between dialogue-driven banter and long, breath-held silences that let desire and danger breath on the same page. The worldbuilding is lush without getting lost in exposition; the blend of magical fae politics with a futuristic edge gives the romance a crisp, modern texture that never feels retro fantasy. A couple of notes, though: there are moments where the plot leans into a trope I've heard before, and a few secondary characters could have had more distinct vocal fingerprints—some listeners might wish for greater differentiation across the chorus of voices. Still, the production quality carries the script well: clean editing, consistent levels, and a soundstage that places you right in the action without distraction. If you like a carefully executed enemies-to-lovers arc that earns its forbidden kiss, delivered with a narrator who can switch from steel to tenderness in a breath, Fairy-Struck is a strong listen. It isn't flawless, but it honors Sumida's world-building and gives Stephanie Nemeth-Parker a chance to shine through both bite and tenderness, which is ultimately what keeps this romance memorable.
