About This Audiobook

Kylie Scott’s *Fake* is a glitter-bomb of fame, fortune, and the raw cracks behind the facade. At its core is a romance that unfolds like a scavenger hunt through high society’s underbelly, where billionaires don’t wear capes—they wear Armani and carry ego-sized egos. The chemistry between Layla, a no-nonsense single mom scrubbing floors for a living, and the infuriatingly charming Jackson Price—who’s more used to dodging paparazzi than doing his own laundry—is electric. Scott nails the push-pull dynamic: Layla’s skepticism of fame versus Jackson’s exhaustion with it. The plot zips between cringe-worthy tabloid moments and heartfelt vulnerability, keeping the tension high even when the stakes feel more emotional than life-or-death. It’s messy, it’s fun, and it’s refreshingly unapologetic about its fairy-tale-with-an-edge vibe.

What sets this apart is Scott’s knack for making the absurd feel grounded. The dialogue crackles with wit and authenticity, avoiding the pitfalls of either parody or melodrama. Andi Arndt’s narration is the secret sauce, balancing Jackson’s smoldering arrogance with Layla’s dry wit without overplaying either hand. The pacing ramps up just enough to keep you hooked, though the third act’s shift in energy might leave some listeners craving a tighter emotional throughline. Still, the audiobook’s charm lies in its unfiltered take on love under the microscope—where every touchy-feely moment comes with a side of tabloid skepticism.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went into *Fake* expecting another retread of ‘rich guy falls for working-class girl’ tropes, but Scott flipped the script in ways I didn’t see coming. Andi Arndt’s performance is the reason this audiobook works as well as it does. She nails the rhythm of Jackson’s ego—every smirk, every eye roll—without caricature, and Layla’s weary but fiery narration feels like eavesdropping on a friend venting over wine. The chemistry between them is palpable, even when the plot veers into slightly predictable territory. That said, the audiobook isn’t without flaws. The middle act drags a bit as the tension between Layla and Jackson simmers without enough payoff, and the ending wraps up a tad too neatly for my taste. There’s also a side plot involving Jackson’s estranged family that feels shoehorned in, adding unnecessary complication. Still, the production quality is top-notch, with Arndt’s energy carrying the listener through the lighter moments. If you’re a romance fan who loves flawed, relatable characters and a healthy dose of snark, this one’s worth your time—just don’t expect Shakespeare.
