Stephanie Rose’s narration is the star here—her voice is a razor blade, slicing through the story’s layers with a mix of vulnerability and ferocity. She nails the protagonist’s shift from fragile to fierce, making every line resonate with raw emotion. The audio’s production is immersive, with a haunting score that underscores the eerie tension between the protagonist’s dual worlds. Dawson’s writing is bold, blending body horror with existential themes in a way that feels both fresh and deeply disturbing. The first half of the book is a slow burn, building dread through claustrophobic imagery and the protagonist’s unraveling psyche, but the second half erupts into a chaotic, cathartic showdown that’s impossible to look away from. That said, the story’s reliance on cryptic symbolism sometimes feels like a missed opportunity for clarity, and the pacing dips in quieter moments, leaving gaps in the emotional momentum. Still, it’s a visceral, unforgettable experience that lingers long after the final chapter.
