Dawson’s protagonist isn’t here to learn how to fight; she’s here to survive long enough to burn the system down. The audiobook’s strength lies in its unapologetic focus on power dynamics: the romance subplot (yes, there is one) takes a backseat to the protagonist’s calculated social maneuvering, which Bradley narrates with a perfect blend of cynicism and simmering rage. Her voice work shines in the dialogue—particularly the sneering aristocracy of the born shifters, whose condescension you can *feel* through the speakers. That said, the production isn’t flawless. The fight scenes, while frequent, sometimes blur together in the audio format; a touch more sound design (even subtle ambiance) could’ve heightened the chaos. And Dawson’s worldbuilding, while immersive, occasionally assumes listeners will intuit pack hierarchies that go unexplained. Still, the audiobook’s raw energy and Bradley’s performance make it a standout. If you’re tired of paranormal romances where the heroine’s biggest problem is choosing between two hot love interests, *Unwanted* offers something far sharper: a story about what happens when the outcast stops asking for a seat at the table and just takes the damn thing.
