Inger Tudor’s narration is a standout—her gravelly, low-key delivery mirrors the book’s simmering tension, and her pacing during high-stakes scenes feels like a heartbeat racing in your ears. The protagonist, a PI with a haunted past, is compelling, but Tudor’s performance really elevates the emotional weight of their internal struggles. However, the audiobook’s production occasionally falters: a few moments of faint background noise during critical dialogues distracted me, and the lack of distinct accents for secondary characters made it harder to track relationships. That said, the story’s relentless momentum and sharp, morally complex choices more than make up for these minor issues.
