That said, some listeners might find his pacing a touch too brisk when he barrels through complex accounting jargon without slowing down for second takes—once or twice I had to rewind just to catch the nuance of a journal entry’s impact. The book’s strongest moments come when Shields zeroes in on actual cases, like the fake vendor invoices that bilked a municipality for half a decade, or the shell company network used to launder bribery money. It’s here where the narration shines brightest, making even the most meticulous tracing of ledger entries feel cinematic. My only real critique?
