Chris Lew Kum Hoi and Billie Fulford-Brown deliver powerful performances in Babel, each narrator perfectly embodying their respective characters with rich emotional depth. The dual narration works exceptionally well, providing a dynamic contrast between the perspectives of the student rebels and their more seasoned allies. The pacing is brisk but never rushed, allowing for moments of profound reflection without losing momentum. Kuang's writing shines through the narrative, particularly in its exploration of language as both a tool of domination and liberation. However, some of the subplots feel slightly underdeveloped, occasionally detracting from the overall cohesion. Despite this minor flaw, Babel remains a gripping and thought-provoking listen that will resonate with fans of literary fiction and historical narratives.
