I’ll admit I was skeptical going into *Frontier Lord 2*—military fantasy can often devolve into endless battles with thinning stakes, but Sloss subverts that immediately. Yager’s transition from hardened soldier to reluctant lord isn’t glossed over; his internal conflicts are just as gripping as the external threats. The narration duo, Ryder Wolfe and Serena Moon, elevate the experience further. Wolfe’s gruff, no-nonsense delivery suits Yager’s grueling perspective, while Moon’s versatile range breathes life into the supporting cast, from grizzled mercenaries to cunning diplomats. That said, the pacing stumbles slightly in the middle act, where political maneuvering drags just enough to feel like a breather rather than a strategic lull. The production holds steady, though—clean audio with no distracting distortions, and the sound design (when used) feels intentional, not just window dressing. My biggest critique? Some side characters get short shrift in characterization, making their arcs feel undercooked. Still, this is a minor quibble for an audiobook that otherwise delivers relentless momentum and a protagonist who’s impossible not to root for.
