Harvey’s command of rhythm and pacing sells every scene, especially the brutal, breathless moments when Sylvia’s fate hangs in the balance. That said, the audiobook’s 16-hour runtime occasionally drags in the middle, where Manning’s meticulous descriptions of the Colorado landscape, while vivid, risk dragging the momentum down to a crawl. The production itself is crisp and well-balanced, with no tinny artifacts to distract from Harvey’s performance, though the occasional abrupt chapter transition can feel jarring. That said, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise stellar listening experience. Sylvia Hirsch is the kind of protagonist you can’t stop rooting for, and Harvey’s narration ensures you’ll feel every triumph and heartbreak right alongside her.
