The worldbuilding deepens here, too: the politics of the Itreyan Republic feel lived-in, and the gods aren’t just mythic backdrops; they’re active, capricious players in Mia’s game. That said, this isn’t a flawless listen. The middle act drags slightly under the weight of its own scheming—there’s a *lot* of setup for the final act’s payoff, and a few side characters (looking at you, certain noble factions) blur together. Graham’s narration is stellar overall, but his female voices occasionally veer into caricature, which jars in a book so focused on Mia’s agency. Still, when the climax hits? Worth every minute. The fight choreography is *visceral* in audio form, and Mia’s growth—from vengeful teen to something far more dangerous—is compelling as hell.
