Great Werewolf Classics

I went into this expecting cozy horror, but Saki’s werewolves are less *Twilight* and more *The Picture of Dorian Gray*—if Dorian’s portrait started biting people. Cathy Dobson’s narration is the real star here; she nails the clipped, upper-crust delivery of Saki’s original stories while still letting the growls and howls feel visceral. The standout track is *The Werewolf*, a darkly comic tale where a man’s transformation is treated like a terrible dinner party mishap—until it isn’t. My only quibble is that a few stories feel overly reliant on twist endings that don’t quite land, leaving the pacing a tad abrupt. Production-wise, the audio is crisp, with no muffled dialogue or awkward silences, though I wish the sound design leaned into the eerie ambiance more during transitions. Still, if you’re craving werewolves that feel more like Victorian gothic than modern fantasy, this collection delivers with style.
