She doesn’t *act* Green’s grief so much as inhabit it, her voice roughened like bark, her pauses heavy with things unsaid. There’s a scene early on where Green describes her mother’s last moments, and Hunter’s delivery is so quietly devastating that I had to rewind—not because I missed anything, but because I needed to sit with it. Hoffman’s writing has always had a mythic quality, but this story’s brevity and brutality make it feel like a lost fairy tale. The pacing is uneven by design, mirroring Green’s dissociative spells, and while that might frustrate listeners craving plot momentum, it’s the right choice for a story about time losing its shape. My only real critique? The ending arrives so abruptly it borders on whiplash—after so much atmospheric dread, the resolution feels almost too neat, like Hoffman pulled the parachute a second too late. And while Hunter’s performance is stellar, her voice for the love interest, Diamond, occasionally veers into caricature, his drawl a touch too broad for the story’s otherwise sparse realism.
