About This Audiobook

Ground Zero is a powerful and haunting novel that explores the lasting impact of trauma on individuals and communities. Alan Gratz masterfully weaves together two disparate storylines, one set in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 and the other in the midst of the Afghanistan War. Through the eyes of Brandon, a young boy caught in the chaos of the Twin Towers, and Reshmina, a young Afghan woman struggling to survive in a war-torn country, Gratz reveals the human cost of conflict and the resilience of the human spirit.

Narrator Bernardo de Paula brings a nuanced and empathetic tone to the story, while Ariana Delawari's distinctive voice adds a haunting quality to Reshmina's narrative. The audiobook's production is seamless, with the two narrators seamlessly transitioning between storylines. What makes Ground Zero truly distinctive is its unflinching portrayal of the trauma and suffering that war inflicts on individuals, particularly children and women.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I was blown away by the complexity and depth of Ground Zero, and the audiobook only added to the emotional impact of the story. Bernardo de Paula and Ariana Delawari deliver standout performances, bringing a sense of urgency and desperation to the narrative. One of the things that struck me was the way the story seamlessly transitions between the two timelines, creating a sense of continuity and flow that's all too rare in multi-narrative audiobooks. My only critique is that the pacing can feel a bit uneven at times, particularly in the second half of the story, where the plot begins to feel a bit more rushed. However, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise exceptional audiobook experience. Overall, Ground Zero is a must-listen for fans of historical fiction and powerful storytelling.
