I went into *Black Lush* expecting steamy scenes and a predictable plot, but Sherelle Green delivered something far more intoxicating: a story that simmers with tension from the first page. The unnamed narrator’s internal battle between attraction and self-preservation is the secret weapon here—her dry wit and refusal to make things easy for Ares kept me hooked long before the physical chemistry kicked in. That said, the pacing isn’t flawless. The middle section drags slightly, with a few too many scenes that repeat the same flirtatious dynamic without advancing the plot. A tighter edit could’ve shaved off those lingering moments. The narration, however, is a masterclass. Wesleigh Siobhan’s performance is electric—every smirk and eye roll in the protagonist’s voice feels like a dare. Crisden’s Ares is effortlessly smooth, his tone dropping an octave at just the right moments to make you grip your phone tighter. My only critique? The audio production has a few inconsistent volume shifts in the background score, which jolted me out of the mood a couple times. Still, by the final act, when the tension finally snaps, you’ll forget about those hiccups.
