I’ll admit I approached *Hôtel Atlantique* with skepticism—retired detectives in seaside towns are a dime a dozen—but Jakob and Moll turned my expectations into a puddle by the third chapter. Anne Moll’s performance is the reason this audiobook works as well as it does. She nails Delphine’s world-weariness, but it’s the subtle shifts in her delivery that sell the story: the way her voice tightens when Delphine’s suspicions flare, or how she lets a beat of silence linger after a revelation. The pacing is brisk enough to keep the coastal stroll from turning into a nap, but measured enough to savor the salt in the air. My biggest critique? The supporting cast occasionally blurs together—several side characters end up feeling like mannequins in the hotel lobby, their motivations as thin as the linen curtains fluttering in the drafty halls. And while the locked-room mystery premise is clever, the solution leans a touch too hard on coincidence for my taste. But these are minor quibbles. Jakob’s real achievement is making Brittany feel like a character itself—moody, beautiful, and hiding more than just sea caves.
