The pacing is deliberate, sometimes frustratingly so when Haatchi’s backstory drags, but that’s also the point: this isn’t a race to the finish. The audiobook’s standout moment comes during Haatchi’s first meeting with Owen, narrated with a tenderness that made me pause mid-walk to smile. That said, the production suffers from occasional muffled audio when the mic picks up real-life background noise, and the epilogue’s abrupt shift to adult Owen’s perspective feels tacked on. Still, Glaister’s performance turns what could’ve been a maudlin tale into something far more profound: a reminder that disability and devotion aren’t obstacles—they’re just part of the journey.
