Handsome Wrangler

I went into *Handsome Wrangler* expecting another formulaic cowboy romance—hot guy, small town, one-liners about horsepower. What I got was a delightfully messy romp with teeth. Virtual Voice’s narration is a standout, striking the perfect balance between Brent’s gruff monotone (because of course a cowboy sounds like he gargled gravel) and the explosive energy of his love interest, Lila, who sounds like she’s one sarcastic remark away from tossing him into a stock tank. The audiobook’s pacing is tight, but the real gem is Alvin’s knack for making Honey, Texas feel like a character itself—a place where everyone knows your business before you do, and where Brent’s attempts to lay low are about as effective as a screen door on a submarine. My only gripe? The secondary characters, particularly Brent’s rodeo buddies, feel underutilized, as if they wandered in from a different draft of the manuscript. Still, the core romance more than delivers, especially in the final act when the gloves come off (and so does Brent’s patience). If you’re craving a romance where the conflict isn’t just a misunderstanding but a full-blown identity crisis with flirtation attached, this one’s for you.
