The audiobook leans into this hard: Lauren Sweet’s narration makes their banter feel like a verbal tennis match, with her timing so sharp you can *hear* the eye rolls and suppressed smiles. That said, the pacing stumbles slightly in the middle. The movie-date recreations, while charming, occasionally drag when the conflict feels manufactured (Annie’s resistance to Brendon’s grand gestures sometimes reads as stubbornness for plot’s sake). And while Sweet excels at voicing Brendon’s dramatic monologues, her Annie occasionally blends into a generic ‘gruff love interest’ tone—missing a chance to give her more distinct warmth. Still, the production quality is pristine—no awkward edits or volume shifts—and the emotional payoff of the last act (especially a *devastatingly* tender scene involving a rainstorm and a confession) more than makes up for any lulls.
