I was skeptical about a 70‑minute biography of an ancient queen, but Fitzpatrick’s performance quickly convinced me to stay the course. His pacing is deliberate, giving each political maneuver room to breathe while still maintaining momentum. When the narrative shifts to Hatshepsut’s famous expedition to the Land of Punt, his voice softens, and you can almost hear the distant waves, making the trade expedition feel alive rather than a footnote. The production values are solid; the occasional ambient sounds never overpower the narration, but they add texture that keeps the listener engaged. The book’s strongest suit is its focus on the human drama behind the iconography—court conspiracies, the delicate balance of gender politics, and the eventual attempt by her stepson to scrub her from history. However, at times the transitions between scholarly analysis and storytelling feel abrupt, especially when the author dives into economic data. A smoother segue would have helped maintain immersion. Also, while the background ambience is effective, it occasionally repeats the same desert wind loop, which can become noticeable after a while. Despite these minor hiccups, the audiobook is a compelling, well‑produced glimpse into a ruler who broke every rule, and Fitzpatrick’s narration makes it feel like a live, intimate lecture rather than a textbook read.
