Adam Gold’s narration elevates *Heartless* from a solid paranormal romance to a truly immersive experience. He gives Blach a gravelly, restrained intensity that simmers beneath every line—like a man holding back a storm—and contrasts him perfectly with Taavi’s lighter, fiercer timbre, which Gold captures through vocal restraint rather than mimicry. The dual perspectives never blur, a credit to both the writing and the performer. Pacing is tight in action scenes but lingers purposefully in intimate moments, letting the tension breathe. That said, the first two hours are heavy on internal monologue and world-building, which might test listeners who prefer immediate momentum. And while Showalter’s prose delivers the emotional gut-punches fans expect, a few villain motivations feel rushed in the final act. Still, the audiobook’s production quality is flawless—no hiccups, perfect pacing, and music cues that appear subtly in key transitions. Gold’s performance, especially during the charged confrontations, turns heated dialogue into something almost tactile. If you love enemies-to-lovers with fangs, magic, and moral gray zones, this one carves a space all its own.
