Highlander Romances

I’ve listened to my fair share of Highland romances, but Ross’s *Highlander Romances* stood out for its unapologetic focus on women who seize what they want—even when society and swords stand in their way. The narration by Virtual Voice is surprisingly immersive given it’s not a human performer; the synthetic tones carry emotional weight without the drama of overly theatrical voice actors, letting the stories unfold cleanly. The short story “Highlander” is a standout—just 30 pages but packed with a woman riding into battle to claim her man, her grit making her instant heroine material. The novella “Highlander in Her Bed” edges into darker territory, forcing the heroine to confront past betrayals while the hero’s possessive instincts border on terrifying (in the best way). My biggest critique? The two novels, while enjoyable, occasionally drag in their second acts during prolonged clan feuds, risking momentum. Still, Ross’s knack for blending historical authenticity with unabashed sensuality makes this a binge-worthy set. If you’ve ever fantasized about a hero who’d scale a castle wall just to press a kiss to your wrist, this is your audiobook.
