How I Became a God

Bobby Dean’s narration is the audiobook’s secret weapon—he nails Hash’s flat, ironic teen voice while still selling the god-tier moments with gravitas. His performance of the cave’s eerie whispers and the villain’s ham-fisted monologues is so good it raises goosebumps, even when the writing occasionally stumbles into cringe. The production quality is crisp, with subtle environmental effects that make you feel the cave’s damp chill or the thunderous weight of divine battles. That said, the third act’s villain reveal feels rushed, like it was trimmed to fit the runtime, and a couple of fight scenes drag longer than a Seattle winter. Still, Dean’s energy keeps the ship sailing, and Blink’s premise is too fresh to dismiss over a few pacing hiccups.
