About This Audiobook

Jennifer Weiner’s *Hungry Heart* isn’t just another memoir—it’s a gut-punch of honesty served with sharp wit and a side of sass. This isn’t a book about dieting or weight loss; it’s a collection of essays that dissect the messy intersections of food, family, and self-worth with the precision of a surgeon and the humor of a late-night comedian. Weiner writes about her complicated relationship with food with such unflinching clarity that you’ll wince, laugh, and maybe even confront your own demons. Whether she’s recounting a disastrous spa day or the moment she realized she was done apologizing for her appetite, every story feels like a conversation with a friend who won’t let you hide. The audiobook elevates the experience further—Weiner’s narration is pitch-perfect, balancing vulnerability with a brash energy that makes listening feel like eavesdropping on a confessional. She doesn’t just read her words; she performs them, turning each essay into a solo show where the punchlines land and the heartbreak lingers.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I had high hopes for *Hungry Heart*, but Jennifer Weiner’s narration exceeded them in ways I didn’t expect. Her voice—equal parts New Yorker sass and small-town bluntness—makes this audiobook feel like a two-hour chat with a brilliant, unfiltered friend. She nails the rhythm of her own humor, delivering punchlines with the timing of a stand-up comic and the emotional depth of someone who’s lived enough to know better but still does it anyway. The essays themselves are a masterclass in candor; Weiner doesn’t just lay her life bare, she dissects it with a scalpel, exposing the ridiculous and the raw in equal measure. That said, the pacing occasionally stumbles—some pieces drag in the middle, leaving me wishing for the same razor-sharp focus she applies to the rest. And while her narration is mostly stellar, her attempts at mimicking other voices (a boyfriend’s drawl, a mother’s exasperation) land a bit too close to caricature for my taste. Still, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise electric listening experience. By the time Weiner gets to the essay about her mother’s matzo ball soup—a piece that’s equal parts nostalgic and brutal—I was fully sold on her unapologetic, messy, brilliant worldview. If you’ve ever loved someone you couldn’t fully understand, or eaten something you regretted, this audiobook will feel like a reckoning.
