Having devoured volumes 1-5, I was eager to return to Liam's upside-down universe of galactic rebellion and old-fashioned sibling rivalry. As Vol. 6 opens, the prince who escaped assassination embraces his evil identity with a vengeance, ruling his empire with a grin that could light up two sectors. His brother Linus, meanwhile, is cooking up something spectacularly large-scale and, quite possibly, world-ending. This volume throws Liam straight into a fresh, galaxy-spanning crisis that feels both completely wild and characteristically his—because, let's face it, Liam thrives on chaos. Kirk's performance is as combustible as ever, expertly switching between Liam's smug narration, the panicked voices of other characters, and the overwhelming sense of impending, glorious destruction. He sells every bit of the book's manic energy, making the absurdity feel thrilling rather than just silly. The story keeps the signature blend of slice-of-life moments, high-stakes plotting, and dark humor intact. While the rapid escalation of stakes towards the ending is slightly less nuanced than in some previous volumes, it works for this particular volume. There's a wonderful energy to this sixth chapter, perfectly captured by Kirk's narration. This audiobook is pure, unadulterated, fun sci-fi—if you enjoy stories where the villain has the most fun, this is your next essential listen.
