About This Audiobook

Lorraine Brown’s *Irtiotto* is a rom-com so sharp it feels like a shot of espresso—packed with wit, warmth, and a premise that’s both absurdly relatable and deliciously unpredictable. The story follows Hannah and Simon, a couple whose relationship is coasting on autopilot until a tiny, impulsive decision derails their train (literally) and sends them on a detour that’s equal parts hilarious and heartfelt. Brown’s writing crackles with dry humor and authentic dialogue, making it feel less like a scripted comedy and more like eavesdropping on two friends whose lives just took a spectacularly messy turn. What sets this apart is how Brown balances the rom-com tropes with real emotional stakes—this isn’t just about whether they’ll end up together, but *how* they’ll get there, flaws and all.

The audiobook elevates the material further thanks to Anniina Piiparinen’s narration, which is a masterclass in comedic timing and vocal versatility. Piiparinen doesn’t just read the lines—she *performs* them, shifting seamlessly between Hannah’s frazzled panic, Simon’s clueless charm, and the chorus of quirky side characters who steal every scene. Her delivery makes the jokes land harder and the quieter moments feel intimate, even in the chaos of a train station meltdown. It’s the kind of narration that turns a good story into a great listen, where you’ll laugh out loud one minute and find yourself nodding along to the characters’ raw, relatable struggles the next.

AudioBook Atlas

I’m a sucker for rom-coms that feel fresh, and *Irtiotto* delivered—even when I wasn’t expecting it. Piiparinen’s narration alone is worth the credit; she’s the kind of performer who makes you feel like you’re right there in the train car with Hannah and Simon, sweating through their disastrous detour. Her ability to switch between Hannah’s frantic inner monologue and Simon’s oblivious charm is downright impressive, especially during the book’s peak scenes: a sprint through a crowded station at midnight, a disastrous pub quiz that spirals into chaos, and a heart-to-heart that sneaks up on you when you’re not looking. The pacing is tight, too—Brown wastes no time on setup, diving straight into the mess and keeping the energy high, though I did wish the middle act stretched a little longer to savor some of the side characters’ arcs. That said, the ending felt a bit too neat for my taste. After all the chaos, the resolution wraps up a little too conveniently, and I would’ve loved to see Hannah and Simon’s growth push against a harder obstacle just to prove they’d learned something real. Still, the humor and heart more than make up for it, and Piiparinen’s performance is so engaging that even the smaller emotional beats land. If you’re craving a rom-com that’s equal parts laugh-out-loud and genuinely touching, this is the audiobook for you.
