Sol de la Barreda’s performance is a masterclass in restraint; her voice could chill a summer day, perfect for the eerie lake town setting. Portugués, meanwhile, steals scenes as Roi’s fractured uncle, his performance laced with a desperation that borders on terrifying. The production is flawless, with subtle ambient sounds (rustling reeds, distant church bells) that immerse you without distraction. My only critique? The middle act sags slightly under the weight of backstory, though Barreda’s narration keeps the momentum. The ending, however, is a gut-punch—unexpected and devastating. If you crave thrillers that linger like a bad dream, this is your audiobook.
