About This Audiobook

Maude Royer’s *Le livre de la jungle* isn’t the children’s classic you remember—though the title might mislead. This is a gothic horror novel where a billionaire’s grotesque voyeurism festers in the shadows of Paris’s elite, fueled by a drug-like extract of others’ secrets and a perverse hunger for exposure. Royer’s prose is lush, suffocating, and steeped in decadence, transforming familiar fables into something sinister. The jungle isn’t a place here; it’s the untamed psyches of those ensnared by the billionaire’s games, where every revelation comes with a price. If you crave horror that drips with atmosphere and moral rot, this is your audiobook. Clotilde Seille’s narration is the match to this powder keg—her voice crackles with restrained fury and creeping dread, sliding between aristocratic disdain and raw, visceral terror. She doesn’t just read the words; she inhabits the roles, making the billionaire’s obsession feel tactile, his victims’ suffering audible in every shuddered breath.

Editor's Review

AudioBook Atlas

I went into *Le livre de la jungle* expecting a retelling of Kipling’s stories, and what emerged was a nightmare of psychological horror that clings to you long after the final chapter. Clotilde Seille’s performance is the reason this audiobook works as well as it does. Her delivery is a masterclass in contrast: the billionaire’s voice drips with oily charm, every syllable laced with the kind of false warmth that makes your skin crawl, while his victims sound hollowed out, their words dragged from them like confessions. The pacing is relentless, pulling you deeper into the billionaire’s world of secrets and punishment without mercy. That said, the audiobook’s production stumbles in a few places—the occasional breathy effect feels overdone, almost distracting from the heavier moments. And while the billionaire’s backstory is deliciously twisted, his motivations blur into caricature by the end, losing some of their menace. Still, Seille’s narration elevates the material, making the horror visceral. If you’re here for subtlety, look elsewhere—but if you want a gothic nightmare where every character is both predator and prey, this delivers.
