Hoffman’s performance as the protagonist is a standout; she nails the mix of exasperation and longing, especially in the scenes where the heroine’s sarcasm clashes with Jonathon’s cool confidence. Abano, meanwhile, gives Jonathon a voice that’s equal parts velvet and gravel, though I’ll dock half a point for his occasional over-enunciation of *certain*… intimate phrases. (Some lines just don’t need that much emphasis, Aaron.) The story’s pacing is where opinions might divide. Elliott commits hard to the slow burn, and while the payoff is worth it, there are moments in the middle where the will-they-won’t-they starts to feel like a marathon. That said, the chemistry between the leads is undeniable, and the erotic scenes—when they finally arrive—are written with a rawness that avoids purple prose. My only real critique? The side characters sometimes blur into the background, serving as little more than sounding boards.
