Seven isn’t your typical broody athlete; he’s a goalie with a philosopher’s cynicism, and Brynn isn’t here to fix him. Their dynamic is a push-pull of wit and wounded pride, and King writes dialogue that *sings* in audiobook form. Peachwood and Hatchet’s narration is a standout—Peachwood’s Brynn is all clipped sarcasm, while Hatchet’s Seven sounds like a man who’s spent too many nights alone in his own head. Their timing is impeccable, especially in the banter-heavy scenes where a beat too long of silence speaks volumes. That said, the middle act drags slightly with repetitive internal monologues about trust (we *get* it, Seven), and the hockey scenes, while atmospheric, occasionally veer into jargon-heavy play-by-play that might lose non-fans. But the payoff—a slow, smoldering burn to a genuinely earned HEA—makes it worth the wait. The production is polished, with seamless transitions between POVs and just enough ambient sound (the *thwack* of a puck, the scrape of blades) to ground the story without distracting.
