Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I was completely swept up in 'Mail Order Bride: The Western Baby Train' from the get-go. Meghan Kelly's narration is top-notch, with a gentle, soothing quality that makes you feel like you're right there alongside Emma as she faces the challenges of life on the frontier. Ashwood's writing is full of clever turns of phrase and vivid descriptions that transport you to another time and place. One thing that really stands out is the way Ashwood subverts the typical mail order bride trope, giving her protagonist agency and a healthy dose of sass. I also appreciated the way the story is structured, with Ashwood slowly teasing out the details of Emma's past and her relationship with the prospector. My only quibble is that the supporting cast feels a bit one-dimensional at times - I would have loved to see a bit more development of the prospector's family and friends. Still, this is a minor complaint in an otherwise engrossing and entertaining listen.
