The first act is a masterclass in confined tension: Cirona and Argun’s dialogue crackles with mutual disdain, and Murray’s performance sells every eyeroll and muttered insult. She gives Argun a rumble that’s less *beast* and more *jaded warrior who’s done with everyone’s nonsense*, which makes his rare moments of vulnerability land harder. The escape sequence in Chapter 4 is a standout—Murray’s pacing turns what could’ve been a generic action beat into a breathless, almost tactile chase, with the sound design subtly layering in dripping water and distant dragon roars. That said, the world outside the prison feels undercooked. We get tantalizing hints about merfolk civil wars and dragon clans, but the lore drops often feel like afterthoughts, shoehorned in during lulls in the banter.
