Tim Campbell’s narration is a masterclass in voice work—he nails Ren Lewis’s detached, almost soulless delivery during his psychic ambushes, but it’s his portrayal of secondary characters that really sells the story. The way he modulates voices for allies, enemies, and victims alike makes the audiobook feel like a full-cast performance, even though he’s solo. The pacing is relentless, too. Noffke doesn’t linger on exposition; she drops you into the action and trusts you to keep up, which works brilliantly until the plot starts to twist itself into knots in later books. By Book 4, the convoluted schemes and ever-expanding cast of psychic operatives made my head spin—sometimes literally, as I had to rewind to untangle who was manipulating whom. That said, the audiobook’s 28-hour runtime is both a blessing and a curse. The short, punchy chapters keep momentum high, but the sheer volume of psychic jargon—terms like 'mind-rupture' and 'desire inversion'—can get repetitive. Campbell’s performance helps, but after a dozen mind-breaks, even his vocal range starts to feel stretched thin. The bigger issue is Ren himself. He’s a fascinating villain-protagonist, but his lack of remorse borders on caricature by the end. Still, if you crave a protagonist who’s equal parts terrifying and compelling, *Mind-Breaker Files* delivers in spades.
