About This Audiobook

One of the strengths of the audiobook is the way Aldington handles the complex relationships between the characters. Her subtle inflections convey the tensions and sympathies that arise between Gwen and her students, colleagues, and even her own family. Her ability to capture the unique voices of the characters helps to create a strong sense of place and time, immersing listeners in the world of 1930s Birmingham. The production is also noteworthy, with clear sound quality and seamless transitions between chapters.

Editor's Review

AudioBook Atlas

As a fan of historical fiction, I was drawn into the world of 'Miss Purdy's Class' from the very first chapter. Annie Aldington's narration is top-notch, bringing a level of emotional authenticity to the story that's hard to match. I particularly appreciated the way she handled the supporting characters, each one vividly realized and distinct. The pacing is well-balanced, with a steady flow of action and dialogue that keeps listeners engaged. One of the few minor criticisms I have is that some of the supporting characters feel a bit one-dimensional, which can make it difficult to fully invest in their stories. However, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise excellent audiobook.
