Nexhuman

I approached *Nexhuman* expecting another dystopian slog, but Francesco Verso’s novel surprised me with its heart and ingenuity. Greg Douras’ narration is a standout—his portrayal of Peter’s weary resilience and Alba’s eerie, almost robotic precision is masterful, especially in the quieter moments. The world feels lived-in, from the claustrophobic junkyards to the opulent enclaves of the elite, all rendered with a tactile, almost tactile clarity. That said, some of the nexhuman lore bogs down the pacing; Alba’s internal monologues occasionally stall the momentum with exposition dumps. The love story at its core is uneven—Peter’s infatuation with Alba risks veering into creepy territory, though Verso walks the line deftly enough to make it palatable. Production-wise, the audiobook’s sound design is minimal but effective, letting Douras’ performance shine without gimmicky distractions. If you’re here for hard sci-fi with emotional teeth, *Nexhuman* delivers—but brace for a few rough patches.
