Obelisk: System Integration: A LitRPG Adventure

Pavi Proczko’s narration is the reason this audiobook works as well as it does—his Warren is a perfect mix of tired everyman and reluctant badass, his delivery sharp enough to cut through the absurdity without sacrificing the humor. The obelisks’ voices, with their cold, synthetic cadence, are the standout, making their demands feel like orders from a bureaucracy designed by Lovecraft. That said, the pacing stumbles a few times in the middle act, where the game’s mechanics get overly convoluted. It’s forgivable, but it’s the one moment where the audiobook’s energy dips, and you’ll find yourself rewinding to parse what just happened. The story’s strength is its refusal to take itself seriously while still delivering heart and stakes. Warren’s evolution from bewildered survivor to a strategist who weaponizes the system’s flaws is satisfying, even if some of his choices feel a bit too convenient. The humor lands consistently, whether it’s through Warren’s internal monologue or the obelisks’ deadpan threats. Production-wise, the audio is clean, with no distracting glitches, and Proczko’s performance sells the tonal whiplash between high-stakes survival and laugh-out-loud moments. If you’re a LitRPG fan who craves something with more edge and less grind, this is a refreshing pick—just don’t expect it to hold your hand through every system update.
