His performance of Claire, our human protagonist, nails the exhausted optimism of someone who’s been dropped into a world that refuses to take her seriously. The real magic happens in Leslie’s delivery of the vampires and werewolves—each character’s voice drips with smug authority or chaotic mischief, making their bureaucratic squabbles feel like the world’s most entertaining performance art. That said, the pacing drags in a few mid-book arcs where the satire overstays its welcome, and the third act’s resolution lands with a thud that feels a bit too neat, as if the story suddenly remembered it needed a happy ending. Still, the chemistry between the cast and the razor-sharp dialogue make it worth the ride.
