With *my* baby.”* had me cackling in my car. *One Moment Please* is the rare rom-com that earns its emotional beats through sheer charisma, and the audiobook format is its secret weapon. Mallon’s performance as Lila is a standout: she nails the character’s breezy confidence while letting the cracks show when the panic sets in. Hamilton, meanwhile, makes grumpy, uptight Dr. Finn *infuriatingly* attractive—his clipped delivery during arguments had me leaning in, waiting for Lila to verbally eviscerate him (which she does, gloriously). The pacing is where this audiobook shines. Daws avoids the mid-book slump by weaving in subplots—Lila’s struggling business, Finn’s family baggage—that give the story texture without dragging. That said, the third-act conflict felt *slightly* rushed; I wanted one more explosive confrontation to match the slow-simmer tension of the first half. And while the steamy scenes are well-done, they occasionally clash with the otherwise snappy dialogue (a nitpick, but Finn’s dirty talk veers into *too* clinical for a guy who’s supposed to be flustered). Still, the narration’s chemistry sells even the weaker moments. If you’ve ever rolled your eyes at a rom-com heroine’s “quirkiness” or a hero’s alpha-male posturing, this is the palate cleanser you need—messy, funny, and refreshingly real.
