Khan’s turn in *The Necklace* is the standout—his Mathilde Loisels sounds like a woman already calculating the cost of her mistakes before she’s even made them. That said, the pacing isn’t perfect. The shift between narrators can feel jarring in the anthology sections—you’re deep in García’s rhythmic cynicism, then suddenly Khan’s clipped delivery pulls you into a different headspace. And while the production quality is crisp, a few stories (*Mademoiselle Fifi*, notably) suffer from over-dramatization; Lanzas’ German accents veer into caricature. Still, these are quibbles. The real triumph here is how the narrators expose Maupassant’s subtext: the way silence in *Boule de Suif* becomes a weapon, or how Duroy’s most innocent-sounding lines in *Bel-Ami* are the most damning. If you’ve ever thought classics were ‘too old’ to shock you, this audiobook will prove you wrong—preferably while you’re stuck in traffic, gripping the wheel a little tighter.
