I’ll admit, I approached *Parents Prepping for the Multilingual Future* with skepticism. As a parent who’s tried (and failed) to introduce Spanish through apps and half-hearted ‘family rule’ mandates, I was bracing for another guilt trip about ‘wasting critical years.’ What I got instead was a surprisingly liberating reality check. O’Hern’s stance—that consistency beats perfection, and that even ‘imperfect’ exposure has measurable benefits—was the permission slip I didn’t know I needed. Kristen Osborne’s narration elevated this further; her delivery of O’Hern’s self-deprecating anecdotes about his own multilingual parenting missteps made me feel like I was eavesdropping on a trusted friend’s messy, hopeful journey rather than absorbing a lecture. That said, the audiobook stumbles slightly in its middle section, where O’Hern leans hard into repurposing household chores as language lessons. While the intent is noble, the examples veer into the gimmicky (seriously, who has the energy to narrate their dishwashing routine in Tagalog?). And for all its progressive take, the book occasionally dismisses the very real barriers—time, resources, partner buy-in—that keep many parents from executing these plans. Still, if you’re a parent teetering on the edge of multilingual parenting, this audiobook is the nudge you need, warts and all.
