The story itself is a masterclass in economy. Irving doesn’t waste time on exposition; within minutes, you’re dropped into a high-stakes op where the Reaper’s new ‘employers’ (a shadowy entity called *The BOARD*) are playing god with life and death. The pacing is relentless, with set pieces that feel ripped from a first-person shooter—think *Call of Duty* meets *The Sixth Sense*. My only real critique? The worldbuilding around *The BOARD* is deliberately vague, which works for mystery but left me craving more concrete stakes. And while the virtual narration excels in action scenes, it struggles with sarcasm—some of Harwood’s one-liners land like lead balloons.
