About This Audiobook

Ben and his crew think they’re just passing through Colorado—until a roadblock sends them spiraling into the Appalachian Mountains, where the last remnants of civilization aren’t ruled by law, but by ruthless moonshiners turned warlords. Bruno Miller’s *Restitution* isn’t your average post-apocalyptic tale; it’s a gritty, fast-paced descent into a world where every decision could be your last. The prose is lean and punchy, skipping the navel-gazing that bogs down so many survival stories. What unfolds is less about rebuilding society and more about clawing your way through the wreckage, with bullets, betrayal, and just enough hope to keep you hooked. The audiobook’s strength lies in its unflinching depiction of human desperation—no heroes here, just flawed people making terrible calls for the sake of survival.

The narration by Andrew Tell is the glue that holds this brutal narrative together. His voice shifts seamlessly between exhausted resilience, cold menace, and quiet dread, making every line feel immediate. He doesn’t overcook the drama; instead, he lets the story’s tension speak for itself. This isn’t a book that coddles you with moral clarity—it’s a raw, immersive experience that forces you to question who you’d become if the world ended tomorrow. If you crave apocalyptic tales without the Hollywood polish, *Restitution* delivers.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went into *Restitution* expecting another recycled Mad Max knockoff, but Bruno Miller’s world is far more claustrophobic and visceral. Andrew Tell’s narration sells the stakes immediately—his gruff, weary tone for Ben and the guttural growl of the mountain outlaws are standouts. The pacing is relentless, with short chapters that keep you flipping (or in my case, rewinding). The audio’s production is crisp, with no distracting compression artifacts, so Tell’s performance shines. That said, the book isn’t without flaws. The female characters are frustratingly sidelined, and the dialogue occasionally veers into cliché (“We’re not savages!” becomes a bit of a refrain). But these nitpicks fade in the face of the story’s raw tension. By the time the crew is staring down the barrels of moonshine-fueled killers, you’ll be gripping your phone (or steering wheel) just as hard as they’re gripping their weapons. It’s not a feel-good listen, but it’s damn effective.
