Kramer nails the cadence of Woods’ prose, making even the legal jargon sound natural, and his villainous turns (yes, plural) are chillingly understated. The production quality is flawless, with crisp audio that lets the tension in Woods’ writing shine. That said, the story occasionally stumbles when Woods leans too hard on coincidence to move the plot forward. Ed’s ex-wife’s escape feels a bit too convenient, and a subplot involving a rogue journalist resolves a little too neatly. Still, these hiccups don’t derail the ride. If you love noir-tinged thrillers where the real mystery isn’t *whodunit* but *how the hell will they survive*, this is your book. The desert setting adds a moody, almost mythic layer to the proceedings, making it feel like a modern Western with a killer twist. Kramer’s performance makes it a must-listen, but Woods’ plotting will have you glued to the end—even when the logic wobbles.
