Scream for Us

I went into *Scream for Us* expecting a spooky-season fling with a neat bow, but Molly Doyle served up something far more exciting: a story that crackles with the same electric tension as an unsheathed knife. Autumn Ivy’s narration is a masterclass in tonal dexterity, starting with Quinn’s wide-eyed nervousness and evolving into something so lush and uninhibited it feels like eavesdropping on a private fantasy. Von Necros, meanwhile, steals every scene he’s in with a voice that’s equal parts velvet and menace—perfect for the masked ringleader who keeps Quinn guessing whether his intentions are salvation or ruin. The production quality is polished but never sterile; the faint hum of party noise in the background sells the immersion, while the strategic use of silence makes the intimate moments feel even more charged. That said, the novella’s brevity is both a gift and a slight letdown. By the two-hour mark, I craved more texture around Quinn’s internal conflict—how did her “good girl” persona crack so completely in a single night? A few extra pages exploring her post-game reflection could’ve deepened the emotional payoff. And while the masked men are deliciously enigmatic, their dialogue occasionally veers into generic alpha-male posturing (“You’re ours now”) that undercuts some of the story’s otherwise sharp originality. Still, these are minor quibbles for a listen that delivers exactly what it promises: a pulse-pounding, skin-tingling escape where the real horror isn’t the monsters in the dark—it’s the ones Quinn chooses to invite in.
