Serial Uncut

I went into *Serial Uncut* expecting a standard serial killer thriller, but Crouch’s tight plotting and Crichton-esque tension blew my expectations out of the water. The twins’ fractured relationship—one haunted by survivor’s guilt, the other by denial—adds emotional weight to the scares, making their descent into madness more personal than most horror. The killer’s taunts are deliciously unhinged, and the way Crouch ties the past to the present is a masterclass in suspense. That said, the audiobook isn’t flawless. Lawlor’s villainous performance is pitch-perfect, but Dawe’s twin voice occasionally wavers between subtle and jarring, pulling me out of the immersion. The runtime is lean at just over four hours, but the lack of a proper denouement left me wanting more closure—like a final stab at catharsis. Still, the narration elevates the material, and Crouch’s ability to make the mundane terrifying (ever fear a rest stop bathroom?) cements *Serial Uncut* as a standout in the genre. If you loved *The Good Girl* or *I’m Thinking of Ending Things*, this’ll hook you fast.
